Trump calls Gaza starvation ‘terrible,’ reaffirms pledge to send aid
Caroline MolloyPresident Donald Trump called starvation in Gaza “terrible” July 29 and reaffirmed his pledge to deliver US humanitarian aid to the region.
As he boarded Air Force One to return to the US from Scotland, Trump told reporters that “everybody, unless they’re pretty coldhearted or, worse than that, nuts,” has to admit that “’it’s terrible’ when you see the kids.”
“Those are kids that are starving,” he added. “And you see the mothers — they love ‘em so much. There’s just nothing they seem to be able to do…We’re going to get them food.”
When asked whether the US should pressure Israel to reach a long-term solution, Trump rejected the idea, saying it would reward Hamas.
Trump’s comments mark a break from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has insisted there is no starvation in Gaza.
