U.S. Senator James Lankford speaks at Oklahoma March for Life rally

Advocates held a rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol in support of pro-life policies. The group celebrated the overturn of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, but still says the work must continue.

The march officially began at the Oklahoma City Bombing National Memorial located at 620 North Harvey Avenue in Oklahoma City, followed by a rally on the steps of the Capitol. Senator James Lakford spoke at the event and expressed his amazement at the turnout.

“As you walk down the street, it’s quite a demonstration of we love children and we love families and moms and dads. And we want to do what we can to be able to support moms and dads and to be able to support those children in every single stage of life.”

Lankford mentioned how the march use to memoralize the decision of Roe V. Wade and now they celebrate the Dobbs decision that effectively brought the decision of abortion back to the state.

“That shift that has occurred is pretty remarkable.” says Lankford.

Lankford reinterated his stance that a child’s life begins at conception.

“I believe a child is a child at conception,” says Lankford “And why do I believe that? Because science believes that that. Because every single cell in a woman’s body has the exact same DNA. Every single one. My beautiful bride Cindy is right there; every single cell in her body from her hair to her toes all has the same DNA. But when she was pregnant with Hannah, there were different DNA inside of her that didn’t match any of the rest of the DNA in her body, because that was a different person. It was growing independently. Now connected to my bride, but growing independent because that’s a different life.”

Lankford also pointed out that women will cross state lines to get an abortion.

“Our state has been very outspoken about the value of every single child but there are moms in our state that will leave and go to Colorado, where they literally celebrate the taking of children’s life,” says Lankford. “So for us, our conversation with people around us and dialogue is speaking into moms and helping them think about this very, very difficult decision. I’m never in a point where I’m flippant about a mom making a decision to have an abortion because I’ve never met a mom who that was an easy thing for them. We have compassion for them, but we also want to say I’m going to stand with you. I’m going to be there.”
