First person released under Oklahoma Survivors’ Act after serving over 34 years
A woman who has served over 34 years behind bars is being released under the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act.
A hearing was held in Seminole County for Lisa Moss on Wednesday.
She was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for conspiracy and first-degree felony murder in October 1990 for the death of her husband, 37-year-old Mike Moss.
The court hearing went over numerous instances of physical and sexual abuse inflicted on Lisa by Mike.
The now 59-year-old testified she told her brother about what she was enduring.
He pleaded guilty to killing Mike more than 30 years ago and testified on Wednesday that he had learned his niece was allegedly also being abused.
He said he shot Mike because the abuse “had to stop”.
Lisa was released on Wednesday.
“There are so many other women who haven’t been believed, who haven’t been heard,” Lisa said after the hearing. “There’s hope for them, there’s hope for them in the future.”
