American Center for Law and Justice joins 150-member coalition demanding Congress defund Planned Parenthood’s ‘industry of death’
The American Center for Law and Justice recently joined 150 pro-life groups that have called on Congress to stop funding abortions.
“Since our earliest efforts defending the pro-life advocacy group Operation Rescue—which has helped save countless unborn lives—the ACLJ has remained steadfast in advocating for the rights of the unborn,” the ACLJ stated in a May 28 press release.
The release continued that despite the ACLJ’s 35 years of defending the pro-life movement, the fight to protect babies and to defund the abortion industry is far from over.
“Abortion is an industry of death, plain and simple,” the ACLJ stated. “That’s bad enough. The American people should not have to fund it.”
The letter to Congress, dated March 26, calls on Congress to join President Donald Trump’s efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, and all abortions paid for through Medicaid, in the upcoming budget reconciliation.
“Planned Parenthood reports raking in a total of $699.3 million, or almost $2 million per day, from American taxpayers in 2023 alone,” the letter stated. “Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report boasted that they performed nearly 393,000 abortions – a 40% market share of the abortion industry in the U.S.”
The letter also detailed how Planned Parenthood spends American taxpayer dollars on political lobbying, while neglecting patients’ health and safety.
The letter cited the New York Times’ February report of Planned Parenthood, which found unsafe conditions at the clinics, including sewage leaks that affected recovery rooms.
“While leaving patients vomiting from rank conditions, Planned Parenthood prioritized pouring millions of dollars into woke lobbying and trying to defeat Republicans in races from the school board to the presidency,” the letter stated. “Planned Parenthood boasts that their advocacy and political organizations spent a massive $69.5 million during the 2024 election cycle.”
The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which is the organization’s political arm, pushes abortions at all stages of pregnancy, the letter continued. It spends more on federal lobbying than any other pro-choice or pro-life group.
