Trump moves Space Command headquarters to Alabama
Caroline MolloyPresident Donald Trump announced Sept. 2 that the US Space Command headquarters will relocate from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama.
During a press conference from the Oval Office, Trump said, “I am thrilled to report that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama — forever to be known, from this point forward, as Rocket City.”
Trump said the move will bring more than 30,000 jobs to Alabama and “hundreds of millions of dollars of investment.”
“Most importantly,” he added, “this decision will help America defend and dominate the high frontier, as they call it.”
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who stood with Trump at the announcement, said moving the headquarters will save taxpayers roughly $480 million compared to the Colorado site.
The new headquarters will also play a central role in developing Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense shield. Trump said the defense project will ensure America’s technological capabilities “remain unmatched long into the future.”
